What is BettaLyfe?

BettaLyfe is a Nigerian fintech platform that gives self-employed workers, informal sector workers, and SMEs access to health insurance (BettaCare), pension savings (Micro-Pension and Personal Pension Plan), loans, bill payments, gift cards, and more — all from one mobile app.

Who is BettaLyfe designed for?

BettaLyfe is built for the 70+ million self-employed Nigerians who have historically been excluded from formal financial products — market traders, artisans, commercial drivers, farmers, business owners, students, and gig workers.

How do I get started?

Download the BettaLyfe app on the App Store or Google Play, create an account with your phone number and BVN, and you can access all services immediately.

Is BettaLyfe regulated?

Yes. BettaLyfe operates within Nigeria's regulatory frameworks. BettaCare health plans are underwritten by NHIA-regulated insurers (AXA Mansard and NEM Insurance). Pension products operate under PENCOM's Contributory Pension Scheme. Lending services are subject to applicable CBN and FCCPC guidelines.

Is my data safe on BettaLyfe?

2. BettaCare — Health Insurance

What is BettaCare?

BettaCare is BettaLyfe's health insurance service, underwritten by AXA Mansard Health and NEM Insurance and regulated by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). Plans start from ₦6,000/year (₦500/month) and give you access to 1,600+ hospitals nationwide.

Do I need an employer to get BettaCare?

No. BettaCare is open to every Nigerian regardless of employment status — market traders, drivers, artisans, students, freelancers, and employees alike. No employer sponsorship required.

How soon can I use a hospital after making payment?

For Corporate Health Insurance plans, access to care is immediate. Individual plans require a 2-week waiting period for registration, processing of policy documents, and issue of your digital health card. The waiting period starts once full payment and all required registration details have been received.

How do I use my cover at a hospital?

After activating your BettaCare plan on the BettaLyfe app, you receive a digital health card. Present this card (or open the BettaLyfe app) at any network hospital reception desk. The hospital verifies your cover and you receive treatment — no upfront cash payment within your plan limits.

Where can I find the list of hospitals on my health plan?

You can search the full hospital directory at bettalyfe.com/find_hospitals or use the hospital finder in the BettaLyfe app. Filter by name, state, or service type.

Does my policy cover my newborn after delivery?

Yes. Depending on your plan (family or individual), your newborn is covered for 6 weeks from birth. You must register the child before that 6-week window expires to maintain continued cover.

Can I cover my parents under BettaCare?

Yes. BettaCare has dedicated Parents Plans (NEM Rose, Hazel, and Ivy) designed for older individuals with higher inpatient limits and cover for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

What is the difference between hospital tiers?

Tiers reflect the size and specialisation of hospitals. Tier 1 covers general clinics; Tier 2 includes secondary hospitals with specialist services; Tier 3 includes teaching hospitals and major private hospitals; Tier 4 and 5 cover premium specialist centres. Higher plan tiers give access to more levels.

Does BettaCare cover maternity?

Yes. Plans that include maternity cover antenatal visits, normal delivery, C-section, and six weeks postnatal care. Routine newborn immunisations (BCG, OPV, HBV, Measles, Pneumococcal, Yellow Fever) are also included on qualifying plans.

Can I resume my cover after stopping contributions for a while?

Yes. To reactivate a lapsed plan, send an email to help@bettalyfe.com requesting reactivation, or raise a support ticket in the BettaLyfe app. Our team will guide you through the renewal process.

Can I buy BettaCare on WhatsApp without downloading the app?

Yes. Market women, traders, and farmers without smartphones can buy a plan, check coverage, and talk to a doctor via a regular WhatsApp message. No app download or data bundle required.

What payment options are available for BettaCare?

Weekly, monthly, quarterly, 6-month, and annual payment options are available depending on the plan. Weekly payments are particularly suited for daily earners like market traders and artisans.

3. Pension — Personal Pension Plan & Micro-Pension

What is the Personal Pension Plan (PPP)?

The PPP is a PENCOM-regulated retirement savings product that allows every Nigerian — regardless of employment type — to open a Retirement Savings Account (RSA) with a licensed Pension Fund Administrator (PFA), make regular contributions, and grow a retirement fund entirely their own.

What is Micro-Pension?

Micro-Pension is a flexible retirement savings product for informal workers with small or irregular incomes. You can save as little as ₦500 at a time on a weekly or monthly schedule. Up to 40% of your micro-pension balance may be accessible to cover pressing needs before retirement.

Who is eligible?

All income-earning Nigerians — self-employed individuals, freelancers, traders, artisans, salary earners, business owners, and even parents saving on behalf of a child. No formal employer is required.

When can I access my pension savings?

For the PPP, your Retirement balance matures at retirement age. Your Contingent balance may be accessible earlier under specific PENCOM-approved conditions — such as temporary job loss for more than four months. For Micro-Pension, up to 40% is accessible at any time; the remaining 60% is preserved for retirement.

Can I change my contribution frequency?

Yes. You can edit or pause your automatic contribution schedule at any time through the BettaLyfe app. Changes take effect from the next contribution cycle.

How do I know my pension contribution was successful?

When a contribution is processed, a confirmation notification is sent to your registered phone number and email. Your pension dashboard in the app will also reflect the updated balance within 24 hours. If you do not receive confirmation, contact support at hello@bettalyfe.com.

Is my pension money safe?

Yes. Your contributions go directly into your RSA held by a PENCOM-licensed Pension Fund Administrator — not held by BettaLyfe. Every transaction is protected by bank-grade encryption. Your RSA records at your PFA remain the definitive source of truth.

Can I link an RSA I already have?

Yes. If you already have an RSA with a PFA, you can link it to BettaLyfe in under two minutes using your RSA PIN, registered phone number, and date of birth. Your full pension dashboard — balance, history, statements — will be available directly in the app.

Can I change my Pension Fund Administrator (PFA)?

Yes. PENCOM allows RSA holders to transfer to a different PFA through an official transfer window. BettaLyfe guides you through the transfer assistance request process directly in the app — no branch visits required.

4. Target Savings

What is BettaSave / Target Savings?

BettaSave is BettaLyfe's goal-based savings feature. You set a savings target (a trip, equipment purchase, school fees, etc.), choose a contribution frequency, and BettaLyfe debits your wallet automatically. It helps you save consistently toward a specific goal.

Can I change my payment frequency?

Yes. Payment frequency can be updated through the app. Changes to contribution schedule take effect from the next billing cycle. Contact support at hello@bettalyfe.com if you need assistance adjusting your plan.

How do I withdraw my savings?

You can initiate a withdrawal from the BettaSave section in the app once your target date or goal amount is reached. Early withdrawals may be subject to the terms of your savings plan.

5. Betta-Driver

What is Betta-Driver?

Betta-Driver is an exclusive program for commercial drivers that bundles health insurance (for the driver and family), pension savings, regular vehicle servicing, and access to major vehicle repair financing — all with a flexible daily payment option.

How does the daily payment work?

Betta-Driver contributions can be made daily through the BettaLyfe app or via an agent, making it easy to save consistently even when income is irregular. Small daily amounts accumulate into meaningful health, pension, and vehicle service coverage.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept payments via your BettaLyfe wallet, debit/credit card, and bank transfer. Payment details can be managed and updated within the app.

How many times a month can I service my vehicle?

You are entitled to one vehicle service visit per month at a BettaLyfe-partner service station as part of your Betta-Driver plan.

Does Betta-Driver cover my family?

Yes. The health insurance component of Betta-Driver covers both the driver and their immediate family members depending on the plan selected.

6. Loans

What types of loans does BettaLyfe offer?

BettaLyfe offers non-collateral and collateral loans with low interest rates and flexible repayment options — designed to help self-employed workers and SMEs access capital to grow their businesses or cover urgent needs.

Do I need documents or collateral to apply for a loan?

For most BettaLyfe loans, no physical documents or collateral are required. You will only need to share your BVN during the application and authorize a debit mandate on your linked account for repayments.

How do I qualify for a loan?

Loan eligibility is based on your BettaLyfe account history, KYC verification level, and creditworthiness factors assessed at application. Maintaining an active savings record on BettaLyfe improves your chances of approval.

How do I repay my loan?

Tap the "Repay" button in the app to make a manual payment via card or bank transfer. Automatic repayments are also deducted from your BettaLyfe wallet on the agreed schedule.

Can I repay before the due date?

Yes. Early repayment is encouraged and attracts no penalty. Tap "Repay" in the Loans section of the app to pay ahead of schedule.

What happens if I don't repay on time?

We understand that unexpected situations can arise; however, missed payments result in: late fees, temporary suspension of your BettaLyfe account, and reporting to national credit bureaus (CRC, First Central) as required by law. Only borrow what you have the capacity to repay.

7. Betta Credit

What is Betta Credit?

Betta Credit is BettaLyfe's buy-now-pay-later and credit facility that lets customers access goods and services — including health plans and bills — with deferred payment options suited to their income cycle.

How do I access Betta Credit?

Betta Credit is available through the BettaLyfe app for eligible users. Eligibility is determined by your account activity, KYC tier, and repayment history.

8. Gift Cards

What gift cards are available on BettaLyfe?

BettaLyfe offers digital gift cards in multiple tiers (Rose, Lion, Diamond, Gold, Crown, Love, Spark, Rocket) that can be purchased and sent to friends, family, or business contacts directly through the app.

Can I send a gift card to someone who doesn't use BettaLyfe?

Yes. Gift cards can be sent via a shareable link. The recipient can redeem the card value into a BettaLyfe account — or create one to receive it.

9. Bill Payments & Wallet

What bills can I pay on BettaLyfe?

BettaLyfe supports airtime top-up, data purchases, electricity (PHCN/AEDC/etc.), cable TV subscriptions, education payments, and gaming/betting payments — all from the app in seconds.

How do I fund my BettaLyfe wallet?

You can fund your wallet by bank transfer to your unique BettaLyfe account number, via card payment, or through a BettaLyfe agent near you.

How do I send money to another person?

You can send money to any Nigerian bank account or BettaLyfe wallet directly from the app using the "Send" feature. Transfers are processed instantly.
